Gable End Roof Bracing
There are several methods for making these types of connections.
Gable end roof bracing. Anchor and brace the bottom of the gable end s triangular wall to the ceiling joists or ceiling framing. In the attic go to the gable end and examine the area where the triangular wall meets the rectangular wall below. The gable end should be attached with studs on either side of the jack post. Now you should brace your gable roof at the end using a temporary stud and install a jack post at a vertical angle running up from the beginning of the joist and connecting to the gable end rafters at the center where they meet.
The gable end frame is designed to transfer vertical loads from the roof to the continuous bearing wall below. Brace the top of the gable end wall by tying it to the rafters or tops of the trusses. Strengthening the framing members of the gable end itself with the use of retrofit studs bracing the top and bottom of the gable end so that lateral loads are transmitted into the roof and ceiling diaphragms by the use of horizontal braces making connections between horizontal braces and. Another way gable end frames are different from trusses placed in the interior of the structure is that frames experience perpendicular wind loads.
