Gas line run through attic. In this picture the sharp edge of the metal cabinet should have a grommet to protect the gas line. There are certain rules that have to be maintained during installation including pipe supports. A flexible gas line is made from thin wall stainless steel. The piping inside the house is called the gas supply line or building line.
Lightning has caused many house fires that have flexible gas lines. Branch lines run to individual appliances. The branch line terminates in a drop line which is a vertical pipe dropping down to the appliance from an overhead branch line. It would have to go through a wall.
Even an appliance connector like this needs to be protected. Building codes generally prohibit running gas line under a slab on grade. Flexible gas lines are safe so long as you have little lightning. This gas line is at the top of an attic scuttle hole.
The other end of the csst would run through the attic and down through another hole in the header of the kitchen wall. This drop line is called a riser if it carries gas up to an appliance from a branch line below the appliance. If the stove is on an outside wall you can run the line along the foundation and enter the wall directly to the appliance or enter from the meter regulator into a wall and then through the wall to the appliance. Should be protected when within 6 of scuttle hole or where it is subject to damage.
